Increase Member Flexibility

More local renewables for members through contract flexibility

  • Member contract flexibility to self-generate more renewable energy than ever before.

Progress in 2020

  • Developed policies to implement the partial requirements membership that the board approved, which creates the option for interested members to self-supply up to 50% of their loads, collectively up to 300MW.

Next steps

  • Our board approved a membership committee’s recommendations for a flexible partial requirements membership option allowing interested members to request an allocation of 300MW of system-wide capacity to self-supply a greater portion of their load requirements.
  • Tri-State filed the relevant policies for implementation of the partial requirements membership option with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), our rate regulator.
  • FERC accepted our community solar policy, which adds flexibility for members interested in developing local solar projects up to the lesser of 4,600,000 kilowatt-hours or 2% of their loads.
