What's a Cooperative?
Niobrara Electric Association is one of over 1000 rural electric cooperatives from across
the nation. As a member of a cooperative you are also the owner of the company.
You have the right to vote for the board of directors or run for the board yourself.
The elections take place each year in May at the annual meeting. If the cooperative makes a profit, the money is allocated each year back to the members. The money is used by the co-op to build equity and financial stability and then at some point in the future the capital credits are retired and returned to the members. NEA has retired capital credits through 1973.
